David Cyr

SFC (Ret) David F. Cyr was born December 27, 1974, and hails from Middletown, Ct. On June 6, 1993, SFC (Ret) Cyr graduated from Middletown High School, and on April 7, 1995, in pursuit of his life long dream, enlisted into the US Army with an Airborne Infantry option. He was assigned to Alpha Company (A Co) 1/38 Infantry Battalion for One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning Georgia. Immediately following A.I.T, SFC (Ret) Cyr was assigned to D co 1/507 Parachute Infantry Regiment (P.I.R), to complete his Airborne Training.

 

Upon completing O.S.U.T Infantry and Airborne training, SFC (Ret) Cyr was assigned to 4/325 Airborne Infantry Regiment (A.I.R). SFC (Ret) Cyr served with the 4/325 A.I.R until the unit was reflagged as 3/325 A.I.R in June 1996. As an E-3/Private First Class, he was assigned as an infantry Team-leader, the position of an E-5/Sergeant, and two ranks above his own rank. On Oct 25, 1997, SFC (Ret) Cyr earned the coveted Expert Infantryman Badge, and continued to serve with B Co. 3/325 A.I.R until he was honorably discharged from active duty on August 3, 1998. On August 9, 1998, SFC (Ret) Cyr enlisted in the CT ARMY National Guard (CTARNG), where he served for an additional 3 years 9 months with A co 1/102 Infantry. In response to the Terror Attacks on September 11, 2001, SFC (Ret) Cyr participated in several operations in direct support of Operation Noble Eagle, and was hand selected as a member of the Anti-Terror Taskforce for the 2002 Winter Olympics. In March 2002, while visiting Ground Zero, he witnessed recovery teams discover the remains of two victims (the last two found) from Sept 11, 200. That evening, he informed his Unit, family and friends he was reenlisting to fight the war on terror. On May 30, 2002, he re-entered Active duty service, and for the next four years was assigned to 3/504 Parachute Infantry Regiment (P.I.R). During his tenure with 3/504 P.I.R, SFC (Ret) Cyr deployed 3 times, once to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom III and twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. SFC (Ret) Cyr attended the Army Recruiting Course in May 2006, and reported to New York City Recruiting Battalion (NYCRB) on August 14, 2006. SFC (Ret) Cyr assumed command of White Plains Recruiting Station on March 23, 2009, and in June 2009, SFC Cyr was approved for conversion to Military Occupational Specialty of 79R, or Permanent Recruiter. On May 29, 2010, SFC (Ret) Cyr married his beloved wife Angelina T. Cyr, and on April 16, 2011, they celebrated the birth of their daughter, Celia Rose Cyr. In Sept 2010, SFC (Ret) Cyr was named NCO of the Year for the NYC Recruiting Battalion, and in June 2011 was inducted into the prestigious leadership club, the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. Later that summer, in August of 2011, SFC (Ret) Cyr would graduate from the U.S. Army’s Senior Leader (SLC) course with the distinction of being named Distinguished Honor Graduate. On Jan 1, 2012, he was promoted to Sergeant First Class, and on Jan 12, 2012, SFC (Ret) Cyr was assigned to the U.S. Army Raleigh Recruiting Battalion, Winston- Salem Recruiting Company, with duty as the Center Commander of the Greensboro Recruiting Center. While assigned as the Greensboro Recruiting Center’s Center Leader, SFC (Ret) Cyr improved the Recruiting Centers standings within 2nd Recruiting Brigade by 51 slots. On Sept 10, 2014, SFC (Ret) Cyr was reassigned as a Recruiting Master Trainer with the U.S. Army New England Recruiting Battalion. SFC (Ret) Cyr would go onto complete his career and retired as a Master Trainer with the New England Recruiting Battalion.

 SFC (Ret) Cyr has attended the Infantry OSUT; Airborne School; Warrior Leaders Course; Advanced Airborne School; Army Mountain Warfare School; Army Recruiting Course; Advanced Leaders Course; Recruiting Center Leaders Course; Senior Leaders Course; and the U.S Army’s Unit Prevention Leaders Course. SFC (Ret) Cyr was also named “2001, NCO of The Year” for the State of Connecticut and was named runner-up at the 2001 First Army “NCO of the Year Board.” On April 25, 2003, SFC (Ret) Cyr was awarded the Bronze Star Medal w/ “V” device for his actions while engaged in a Near-Ambush in the vicinity of Shkin, Afghanistan. SFC (Ret) Cyr also graduated with his National Registry EMT-Basic Certification in Mar 2005, and has achieved 66 credit hours of civilian college. SFC (Ret) Cyr is currently enrolled in pursuit of a Baccalaureate of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Management at the University of Connecticut, while he simultaneously pursues a Business Analytics Certificate at Villanova University. SFC (RET) Cyr is currently employed in a new hire status with First Command Financial Service. 

SFC (Ret) Cyr’s awards include but are not limited to; BSM w/ “V”; Meritorious Service Medal w/ 2OLC; Army Commendation Medal w/ 3OLC; Army Achievement Medal w/ 3 OLC; Good Conduct Medal w/ 5 Knots; Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal; Army National Defense Medal w/ Bronze Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, and both the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals; Civilian Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal. SFC (Ret) Cyr has also been awarded the Valorous Unit Award, and the Army’s Superior Unit award.  He has also been awarded the US Army Gold Recruiting Badge w/ 3 Sapphire Stars, the U.S. Army Wheeled Vehicle Driver’s Badge, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, both the Parachutist Badge and Senior Parachutist badge, the Mountain Warfare “Ram’s Head” device, and the German Bronze Parachutist badge.
